By Road
Kenepuru Road offers vehicle access to the resort, subject to occasional road conditions. Please note that road access may vary from time to time. While the resort is accessible by several transport options, road conditions can occasionally change due to maintenance or repairs. We recommend checking the latest updates on our website or social media channels before travelling.

By boat
Cruise the sounds full the full experience! Cougar Line & Beachcomber run schedules throughout the day into Torea Bay delivering both guests and luggage. Bookings required. You can arrange to have your luggage sent unaccompanied and Portage staff will collect it on arrival and deliver it to the resort. This is a complimentary service for in-house guests. Please discuss at the time of your booking.

Water Taxi
From Picton, you can take a direct water taxi to Torea Bay, followed by a 4-minute pre-booked vehicle transfer or a scenic 30-minute walk over the saddle to the resort. Water taxi services also operate from Havelock (around 40 minutes by boat).

By air
Capture the full beauty of the Sounds from above. Guests travelling from Wellington have the option of taking a short, scenic flight with Sounds Air or catch the ferry to Picton, followed by a water taxi transfer to Torea Bay with either Cougar Line or Beachcomber Cruises.

Pelorus Air also offers a scenic floatplane service from Wellington, Nelson, Picton, Blenheim and Kapiti, with pick-up and drop-off available at the beach in front of Portage Resort.

By helicopter
Arrive in style with scenic flights from regional partners such as Helicopters Nelson. Resort guests may use the promotional code PORTAGE10 for exclusive pricing (subject to partner terms and availability).

Moorings available
If you are arriving on your own boat we have 4 moorings available.

Group Transfers
A number of ferry operators have special arrangements with The Portage to transfer guests for meetings and special events. Quotations can be provided by email on request.

Departing Portage Resort
On your departure day, please place your bags in the luggage shed at the top of the Resort’s Reception stairs by 8.30am. Hotel staff will transport all luggage to Torea Bay for collection. Please do not leave bags outside your room, as the luggage shed is the designated collection point.
